It examines a 134 km section of the channel, including a 75 km dredging line, to understand hydrodynamic and morphological changes. The primary focus of the research is to simulate and analyze hydrodynamic and sediment transport phenomena within the channel. Utilizing data from 2023, including bathymetry, water level, discharge, and sediment data provided by the Payra Port Authority, the study seeks to understand the significant variations in water level, velocity, and discharge from upstream to downstream, especially under tidal influence. The Delft3D modeling system, renowned for its capacity to simulate complex hydrodynamic behaviors influenced by tides, rivers, winds, and coastal currents, is employed to execute this task. The study utilizes the software's FLOW module for simulating hydrodynamic flow, which solves unsteady shallow water equations in both two and three dimensions. This has allowed for the analysis of flow conditions, sediment transport, and morphological developments in the channel. One key aspect of this research has been the calibration and validation of the Delft3D model against real-world data. This step has been crucial to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the model's predictions. The study acknowledges the limitations of mathematical models and emphasizes the importance of comparing model results with actual field data to avoid drawing incorrect inferences. In conclusion, the study provides valuable insights into the hydrodynamic and sedimentation characteristics of the Rabnabad Channel, contributing significantly to the understanding of its behavior and aiding in effective channel management and maintenance strategies.
